Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol Thirumavalavan has urged the Tamil Nadu government, led by ally DMK, to take stringent action against the “rampant prevalence” of drugs across the state. Speaking to reporters in Tiruchy on Monday, the Chidambaram MP expressed concern over the growing narcotics problem and announced plans to meet Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to push for decisive measures against drug peddling and abuse.Thirumavalavan emphasized the DMK government’s role as a “protective wall” for minority communities, highlighting their unwavering support during the 2019, 2021, and 2024 elections. “The minorities have stood by the DMK unconditionally, and they will continue to do so in the upcoming elections,” he said. Thirumavalavan dismissed NTK chief Seeman’s recent comments criticizing the DMK’s minority support as expressions of frustration.
Responding to AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran’s call to unite political parties under the BJP umbrella, Thirumavalavan dismissed the idea, stating, “The BJP is not worth such an effort. Many polls have shown that the BJP is a spent force in Tamil Nadu.”
Thirumavalavan also took a strong stance against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks, accusing him of diminishing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy by equating the Constitution’s architect with religious figures. He criticized the BJP’s history of undermining Ambedkar, pointing to the party’s association with Savarkar, who had opposed Ambedkar. The VCK plans a nationwide protest on December 28, during which members will recite Dr. Ambedkar’s name 1,000 times to honor his legacy.
Thirumavalavan appealed to the state government to expedite local body elections, urging it to resolve any discrepancies causing delays. “The elections should be conducted without further delay,” he said.
On the political front, Thirumavalavan expressed hope that Tamilaga Valvurimai Katchi president Panruti Velmurugan would remain within the DMK alliance in the upcoming elections, calling it his “earnest yearning.”
As Tamil Nadu gears up for the next phase of elections, the VCK chief’s remarks underscore his party’s commitment to social justice and its strategic alignment with the DMK, while continuing to challenge the BJP’s influence in the state.
