Anna University implements new rules for student safety

In response to a recent incident involving the sexual assault of a student, Anna University has introduced stringent measures to enhance campus security and ensure student safety.
Following the incident, a review meeting was chaired by Registrar Prakash to evaluate and strengthen security protocols. The meeting included key officials and members of a newly formed committee tasked with investigating the matter.
A special committee has been established to handle the investigation and recommend preventive measures. This committee comprises Dr. Eswarakumar, Principal of Alagappa College of Technology, Guindy; Dr. Kumaresan, Director of Educational Psychology; Dr. Bhaskaran, Director of the Students’ Center; Dr. Premalatha, Director of the Sexual Harassment Complaints Center, Guindy Campus; and a senior officer from the Kotturpuram Police Station.
Several important decisions were made during the review meeting. All professors, staff, and students are now required to wear their identity cards at all times on campus. Security personnel will verify ID cards when necessary, and cooperation from everyone is expected.
To improve surveillance, all CCTV cameras across the campus will be made fully operational. Additionally, hostel residents will not be allowed to leave the premises after 6:30 PM, implementing a strict curfew to ensure their safety.
The university plans to involve parents in safety discussions by organizing consultation meetings. These meetings will address concerns and outline the safety measures being implemented. Furthermore, the administration will introduce new guidelines and regulations for students across all engineering campuses to maintain discipline and security.
With these comprehensive measures, Anna University aims to create a safer and more secure environment for its students and staff.
