The High Court, while addressing the case, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the actions of the police. It also raised concerns about the leak of the First Information Report (FIR) related to the harassment case.
In addition, the court directed action to be taken against the Chennai Police Commissioner over the matter.
Following this, the Tamil Nadu government filed an appeal in the Supreme Court yesterday, challenging only this specific directive issued by the High Court.
Advocate Kumanan, representing the Tamil Nadu government, argued in the petition that the Tamil Nadu police were not responsible for the FIR leak. The issue, he stated, was due to an administrative lapse in the National Informatics Centre (NIC), operated by the central government.
The petition requested that the High Court’s directive to take action against the Chennai Police Commissioner be nullified, citing the lack of involvement by the state police in the FIR leak.
