Chennai to get Kalaignar International convention centre

Chennai is set to witness the construction of the Kalaignar International Convention Centre at Muttukadu, East Coast Road, with work expected to begin by mid-April. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will soon lay the foundation stone for this ₹525 crore project, which will span 37.49 acres near Dakshin Chitra.
The convention centre aims to position Chennai as a major global conference and cultural hub. It will include a 10,000-capacity exhibition hall, a 5,000-seat convention hall, and a 2,000-capacity auditorium spread across two floors. Additional facilities include parking for 1,700 vehicles, dining areas, cafeterias, and a VIP lounge. Designed with ornamental stapathi works and grand entrance architecture, the centre will be an architectural landmark.
Led by the Public Works Department (PWD), the project has almost completed land acquisition. With an expected construction timeline of 18 months, the convention centre will soon become a premier venue for international events, exhibitions, and cultural programs in Chennai.
