A.R. Rahman Launches ‘Perumaichinnam’ to Honour the Legacy of Tamil Language

On the occasion of Tamil New Year, legendary composer A.R. Rahman unveiled a special initiative aimed at celebrating and preserving the antiquity of the Tamil language through digital innovation. Spearheaded by his team at ARR Immersive Entertainment, the project titled ‘Perumaichinnam’ (Symbol of Pride) seeks to give ancient Tamil literary works a vibrant new life through modern illustrative and digital formats.
Taking to social media, Rahman expressed his admiration for Tamil, highlighting its distinction as one of the world’s oldest classical languages—yet one that continues to evolve gracefully with time. He credited the endurance and richness of Tamil to the centuries of scholarship, literary contributions, and the cultural force of Tamil Sangams.
“‘Perumaichinnam’ is not just a digital mission—it’s an emotional and cultural tribute to our roots,” Rahman stated. “We want to reinterpret ancient Tamil literature in ways that speak to today’s generation, while staying true to the spirit and essence of our language.” He hinted that the initiative may also take a physical form in the future, beyond its digital presence.
More importantly, Rahman stressed the need to carry forward the legacy of Tamil to future generations. “This project is born out of pride for our heritage. We hope it inspires Tamils around the globe to reconnect with their language and culture in deeper, more meaningful ways,” he added.
With ‘Perumaichinnam’, Rahman once again proves that his creativity transcends music—this time turning his focus toward cultural preservation, using the power of digital storytelling to safeguard the soul of Tamil.
