In a politically charged day at the Tamil Nadu Assembly, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) made a striking statement, asserting that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had clearly said, “Modi for Delhi, EPS for Tamil Nadu” — quashing rumors about a coalition government being planned in the state.
The day began with AIADMK bringing a no-confidence motion against DMK ministers V. Senthil Balaji, K. N. Nehru, and K. Ponmudi, citing misconduct and controversial remarks. When Speaker M. Appavu refused to take up the motion for immediate debate, AIADMK MLAs staged a dramatic walkout from the Assembly, accusing the DMK government of shielding its ministers and stifling the voice of the opposition.
Speaking to reporters outside the House, EPS condemned Minister Ponmudi’s recent comments, calling them “disrespectful to Hindu sentiments and demeaning to women.” He demanded strict action and questioned the government’s silence.
On the matter of alliances, EPS was unyielding: “We will align with whoever we want. The DMK is rattled because they see us gaining ground. Our only goal is to come back to power — and we’re ready.” He dismissed media speculation about a coalition government with the BJP, calling it a “misinterpretation” of Amit Shah’s words.
With the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections on the horizon, today’s events marked a key moment for the AIADMK, positioning EPS as a strong contender and signaling an aggressive new phase in Tamil Nadu politics.
