Chinnadurai, a first-year college student, had informed his mother that he was going to meet a friend in Palayamkottai. Around 7:30 pm, he called her, saying he had been attacked by unknown persons. Police rushed to the spot and found him with an injury on his right arm. He was taken to the Government Medical College Hospital and later discharged after treatment.
According to initial inquiries, Chinnadurai said he went to Vasantham Nagar Extension after receiving a message from a friend on Instagram. There, four men confronted him, demanded money, and upon his refusal, assaulted him with a stick and snatched his mobile phone before fleeing.
Tirunelveli Commissioner of Police Santosh Hadimani confirmed that three special teams have been formed to trace and arrest the absconding suspects. However, the investigation faced a setback when the victim claimed he had forgotten both his Instagram username and email credentials.
Police have registered a case with the Palayamkottai police station, and further investigation is underway.
