The attack, which occurred on April 22 in Anantnag district, claimed the lives of 28 people, including 24 Indian tourists and two foreign nationals. Prasad stated that the attack, allegedly carried out by Pakistan-backed militants, is reminiscent of the brutal Chittisinghpora massacre of 2000, highlighting the deep-rooted and recurring threat posed by terrorism.
He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swift response to the incident, including cutting short his Saudi Arabia visit to personally oversee the situation. Emphasizing the government’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism, Prasad assured that those responsible would face the full force of justice.
“The attack was not only on innocent lives but also on India’s developmental strides and global diplomatic efforts under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership,” Prasad noted. He credited Modi for elevating India’s status as a peace-seeking and influential global power, stating that the attack appeared to be an attempt to disrupt that narrative.
The BJP leader also pointed to the widespread international condemnation of the attack, urging the global community to go beyond words and take concrete actions, including imposing economic sanctions on Pakistan for allegedly harboring terrorist groups.
Calling for national unity in the face of tragedy, Prasad urged opposition leaders, particularly Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his allies, to rise above political divisions. “It is crucial now more than ever for all parties to put aside their differences and speak in one voice against terrorism. National security must rise above partisan politics,” he said.
Prasad concluded by calling on every Indian citizen and political entity to uphold the values of unity, integrity, and resilience as the nation confronts yet another grave challenge.
