Party aims to rebuild grassroots strength across Tamil Nadu DMDK General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth has kicked off a major statewide tour in Tamil Nadu, with the 2026 Assembly elections in sight. She is joined by her son, V. Vijaya Prabhakaran, as the party begins a renewed campaign to reconnect with people and restructure its base. The tour is being conducted zone-wise, starting with the southern region of the state, covering 29 constituencies. The duo plans to visit all zones in the coming weeks. During the campaign, the DMDK is holding meetings with booth-level officers and is in the process of appointing local in-charges to strengthen the party’s presence at the grassroots. According to Premalatha, over 75% of booth committees have been formed, and the rest will be finalised within a month. The party is also preparing for a grand public conference in Cuddalore on January 9, 2026, as a show of strength and unity. Premalatha has not confirmed any electoral alliances but indicated the DMDK is open to contesting either alone or with partners, depending on the political climate. She also mentioned that AIADMK had promised a Rajya Sabha seat in writing, with a decision likely before the polls. Speaking at a recent meeting in Karur, Premalatha criticised the DMK-led state government over issues such as illegal sand mining, 24-hour liquor availability, and increasing law and order problems. She stressed that only a coalition government can bring balance and accountability to the state. The tour marks a critical phase in DMDK’s political comeback strategy, as the party looks to regain relevance and voter trust in Tamil Nadu’s dynamic political landscape.
