Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm and colourful welcome in Trinidad and Tobago during his historic two-day visit. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Caribbean nation since 1999.
At Piarco International Airport, Modi was greeted by Trinidad’s PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar, 38 ministers, and hundreds from the Indian diaspora. Traditional drums, dances, and cheers filled the air.
Modi was given a Guard of Honour and a grand cultural welcome with Indian-Caribbean music and dance. In a special moment, he was awarded the country’s highest civilian honour — the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (ORTT).
