The Avadi bus stand, a vital transportation hub connecting Chennai’s suburban areas and facilitating long-distance travel, is set to undergo a significant modernization. A comprehensive renovation project, estimated to cost Rs. 36.06 crore, is currently underway to transform the facility into a state-of-the-art multi-story bus terminal. The ambitious project involves the construction of a new three-story building spanning 65,000 square feet. This modern structure will be equipped with a host of contemporary amenities, including a spacious food court, a dedicated shopping area, a water purification plant, and well-maintained restrooms. The ground floor alone will be designed to accommodate 22 buses simultaneously, streamlining operations and improving passenger flow.
The foundation stone for this landmark renovation was laid on July 9th by Ministers P.K. Sekarbabu and Avadi Sa. Mu. Nasar, marking the official commencement of the upgrade. In addition to the ongoing works, the public has also put forth a request for a high-level pathway to seamlessly connect the renovated bus stand with the Avadi railway station, which is also undergoing its own renovation, ensuring convenient and safe transit for commuters. This integrated approach aims to significantly enhance the overall commuting experience for thousands of daily passengers.
