M Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the legacy of the Chola Empire fuels India’s aspiration to become a developed nation.Speaking at the ‘Mupperum Vizha’ in Gangaikonda Cholapuram, marking 1,000 years of Rajendra Chola-I’s maritime expedition, his birth anniversary, and the construction of the iconic temple, Modi praised the Cholas for their devotion, strength, and democratic values.
He highlighted that Rajendra Chola brought sacred Ganga water to the South, showing early awareness of ecology and water management. Modi also said the Chola-era electoral system predated modern democracy, showcasing India’s ancient commitment to governance.
Calling the Chola legacy a source of pride, he said it continues to inspire India’s journey toward development.
