Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian explained why Chief Minister M.K. Stalin chose to get treated at a private hospital in Chennai. The question was raised by senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan.Tamilisai had asked: if government hospitals are well developed and praised by the DMK, why did the CM go to a private hospital?
Minister Subramanian replied that the stateās public hospitals have indeed improved significantly. Since 2021, their patient numbers have tripled.
He said the CM and other senior leaders visit private hospitals to avoid disrupting services at public hospitals. If major officials go to government hospitals, it may affect care for ordinary patients.
So, the choice of a private hospital is practical, not a sign of public hospital failure, he added.
