Washington, Aug 9: US President Donald Trump said he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15. The goal is to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social. He called it a “highly anticipated meeting” between the leaders of the US and Russia.
The Kremlin confirmed the meeting through aide Yury Ushakov, according to Russian news agency TASS.
Trump said a ceasefire deal with Ukraine is close. He hinted it may require Ukraine to give up some land. “There’ll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both,” he told reporters at the White House.
The war in Ukraine has lasted three and a half years. Trump believes the deal could finally end the conflict.
The announcement came hours after Trump presented a peace plan between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He said this is part of his push to solve many global disputes.
