The Central government has approved ₹1,964 crore for the Chennai Metro Rail project. This money will help speed up construction and expand the city’s metro network.
Officials said the funds will be used for building new metro lines, buying modern trains, and upgrading equipment. The goal is to complete the project faster and improve Chennai’s public transport.
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is already working on Phase 2 of the project, which covers 118.9 km and connects key parts of the city. With this funding, work on stations, tunnels, and elevated tracks is expected to move quickly.
The metro project aims to reduce traffic congestion, provide a safer and faster mode of travel, and lower pollution in the city. Once finished, it will make commuting easier for lakhs of people every day.
