The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced that more than 28,250 stray dogs have been vaccinated against rabies. This is part of a major drive to control the disease in the city.Officials said the campaign is being carried out intensively. Teams are catching street dogs, giving them the anti-rabies vaccine, and then releasing them back. The goal is to stop rabies from spreading and keep both people and animals safe.
The GCC shared a video of the work on its official X (formerly Twitter) page. The post read, “As part of the rabies vaccination program, 28,250 dogs have been vaccinated so far. The work is being carried out intensively.”
Rabies is a deadly disease that spreads through dog bites. Health officials are urging pet owners to vaccinate their pets and avoid contact with stray dogs that appear sick or aggressive.
The drive will continue across all city zones. Corporation workers are also marking vaccinated dogs with paint to identify them easily.
