The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced that the historic Victoria Public Hall will reopen in October under the Singara Chennai 2.0 project, following a major restoration costing ā¹32.62 crore.Deputy Mayor M. Magesh Kumaar said the renovation is almost complete, with only minor flooring and landscaping work pending. He added that the reopening will take place before the second week of October, once the Chief Minister finalizes the date.
As part of the revamp: The ground floor will host a museum.
The first floor will function as a cultural and administrative hub, with an auditorium for art shows and exhibitions.
The restoration included roof repairs, upgraded wooden flooring, improved lighting, landscaping, and both interior and exterior works, all while preserving the hallās heritage design.
The restoration project began in March 2023 and has been carried out to ensure the structure can withstand natural calamities.
Once reopened, the 135-year-old landmark will regain its place among Chennaiās cultural and tourist attractions, offering both heritage charm and modern functionality.
