Yuvraj Singh appears before ED in illegal betting app case

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday for questioning in connection with the agency’s ongoing probe into the illegal betting app 1xBet.

Officials said he was questioned regarding his alleged association with promotional activities linked to the betting platform.

1xBet, a popular online betting app, has been under ED scrutiny for suspected violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Alongside Yuvraj Singh, businessman Anvesh Jain also appeared before the agency today as part of the investigation.

Yuvraj Singh, who was scheduled to join the probe earlier, arrived at the ED office nearly an hour late. He had previously, along with fellow former cricketer Robin Uthappa, been summoned on September 16 to record their statements under the PMLA.

The investigation has already involved several high-profile names. Former cricketers Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan, actors Anjali Arora, Mimi Chakraborty (also a Trinamool Congress MP), and Ankush Hazara have been questioned by the agency. Actress Urvashi Rautela had earlier skipped her summons, while actor Sonu Sood has been directed to appear before the ED on Wednesday.

Officials said the probe is examining whether celebrities and cricketers who promoted 1xBet knowingly or unknowingly endorsed a platform engaged in unlawful financial activities. The ED is also investigating potential links to money laundering and the broader financial operations of the app in India.

The ongoing probe reflects the central agency’s intensified scrutiny of the promotion of betting platforms and the role of high-profile personalities in potentially facilitating illegal financial transactions.
