AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has claimed that the recent tragedy in Karur was not an accident but the result of negligence by the state government.In a social media post, Palaniswami cited reports suggesting that the incident could have been avoided if proper planning and safety measures had been in place. He questioned why permission was granted for such a large gathering in a small venue and accused officials of failing to control the crowd.
He pointed out that the venue had a capacity of around 10,000 people, yet nearly 25,000 had gathered. Eyewitnesses also said that two children fell in the crowd, and there was a delay in rescue efforts.
Palaniswami demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident to identify those responsible, stressing that negligence and poor management led to the tragedy.
