A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Inspector General Asra Garg has begun its probe into the recent stampede at a political rally in Karur that claimed several lives.The SIT, formed as per the Madras High Court’s order, visited Karur. The team first met local police officials and examined reports related to the incident. Later, they inspected the Velusamypuram area where the tragedy took place, reviewing the crowd arrangements and entry points.
Senior officers, including Superintendents Vimala and C. Shyamala Devi, along with other senior police officials, are part of the investigation team. Case documents and reports from the Karur district police have been handed over to the SIT for further examination.
IG Asra Garg told reporters that the investigation has begun as directed by the court and that findings will be shared after a detailed review. The team will look into possible lapses in security, crowd control, and event management.
