In a major boost to Tamil Nadu’s automobile sector, US auto giant Ford has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government to manufacture next-generation engines at its Maraimalai Nagar facility near Chennai. The ₹3,250-crore investment is expected to generate 600 direct jobs.The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin at the State Secretariat. Welcoming the development, Mr. Stalin hailed it as a “powerful comeback” and declared, “Ford returns to Tamil Nadu with full throttle!”
He said the investment reaffirmed Tamil Nadu’s position as India’s automobile capital and a key player in the global manufacturing supply chain. “This major investment will build on Tamil Nadu’s robust automobile ancillary ecosystem,” he added.
Industries Minister T.R.B. Raaja, who was present at the signing, said the government’s consistent follow-up and the Chief Minister’s US visit in 2024 played a key role in Ford’s revival in Chennai. “#Ford is officially back to Chennai! Tamil Nadu is always ready for more,” he posted on X.
The new engine manufacturing unit is part of Ford’s renewed commitment to India and marks a fresh chapter in its long-standing partnership with Tamil Nadu’s thriving industrial landscape.
