The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues its intensive probe into the tragic stampede that occurred on September 27 during a DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) election campaign meeting in Karur district, which claimed 41 lives.As part of the ongoing investigation, CBI officials have questioned over 20 police personnel, including sub-inspectors who were on duty during the event.
On recent dates, the CBI interrogated 17 private ambulance drivers and owners regarding their roles in the emergency response. Yesterday, eight more individuals associated with ambulance services appeared for questioning, some of whom had previously provided statements.
Furthermore, on November 3, CBI officers visited the DMK office in Panaiyur, Chennai, to collect CCTV footage and video recordings from the campaign vehicle used by actor and politician Vijay, which were broadcast live by the party.
Yesterday, three DMK staff members, including the government lawyer and office assistant Gurusaran, submitted these crucial recordings and related documents to the CBI at the government guest house in Thantonimalai, where the investigation is being coordinated.
They underwent about an hour of questioning. Gurusaran and two others have again appeared before the CBI for further interrogation, reportedly submitting additional documents.
Ambulance owners and drivers are also continuing to be interrogated as the investigation advances. The CBI probe aims to meticulously uncover the circumstances leading to the stampede and ensure accountability for the tragedy.
