Tamil Nadu’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister R. Sakkarapani on Sunday refuted claims that more than 12,000 ration shops lacked wheat supply, calling the allegation “baseless and politically motivated.” He noted that the Union Government had reduced the state’s monthly wheat allocation to 8,576 metric tonnes since March 2025, despite repeated appeals for an increase.
For November 2025, the state has already sub-allocated 8,722 metric tonnes to districts based on consumption, and by November 8, 63 per cent of that (5,386 tonnes) had been dispatched to fair-price shops. The Minister gave assurance that the full quantity will reach all shops by November 15, thereby maintaining uninterrupted supply to beneficiaries.
In the same statement, Sakkarapani highlighted Tamil Nadu’s strong agricultural procurement during the current kharif season—13.48 lakh tonnes of paddy were procured from 1,923 centres, benefiting 1.75 lakh farmers with payments of Rs. 3,249.38 crore, almost double the previous regime’s figure. He urged the Opposition not to politicise the issue and stressed that the government remains committed to food-security and welfare for all.
