DMK MPs create chaos in Parliament

DMK MPs staged protests in both houses of Parliament today demanding immediate discussion on the Thiruparankundram temple lamp lighting controversy, leading to chaos and a Lok Sabha adjournment.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla rejected their adjournment motion, prioritizing other business, prompting DMK members to raise slogans and disrupt proceedings.

In Rajya Sabha, Deputy Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan dismissed the notice citing the sub-judice status, triggering a walkout by DMK and allies.

The uproar stems from Tamil Nadu temple authorities’ refusal to light the Karthigai Deepam at the hilltop Deepathoon despite Madras High Court Madurai Bench orders, opting for a lower site citing security concerns.

Justice G.R. Swaminathan, hearing contempt petitions, ordered affidavits from officials, slamming the defiance amid over 500 arrests including BJP’s Nainar Nagendran during protests by Hindu groups.

The state appealed to Supreme Court, escalating the row at Lord Muruga’s first Padai Veedu temple.

DMK MPs’ parliamentary mayhem follows CM Stalin’s X post pitting Madurai’s development needs—Metro Rail, AIIMS, factories—against “politics,” drawing backlash for sidestepping court orders. Opposition BJP accused DMK of minority appeasement and vote-bank tactics, while allies defended peace maintenance.
