Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday inaugurated the newly restored Victoria Hall, a heritage landmark in Chennai, marking the completion of extensive renovation works to revive the historic structure.Built in the late 19th century in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style, Victoria Hall has stood as an important venue for public gatherings, performances and speeches. Under the Singara Chennai 2.0 initiative, the heritage building underwent careful restoration to preserve its architectural integrity while upgrading facilities for contemporary use.
Located near Moore Market on EVR Periyar Salai, the two-storey hall features a modern performance space with improved acoustics, lighting and seating, along with an exhibition area that showcases the venue’s cultural and political history. Officials said the forecourt now includes displays celebrating Chennai’s transport heritage, including models of trams and rickshaws.
The reopening of Victoria Hall aims to reestablish the century-old landmark as a vibrant public space for cultural events, talks and community activities, strengthening the city’s legacy of heritage preservation and civic engagement.
