The much-anticipated release of Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, originally scheduled for January 9, 2026, has been officially postponed, confirmed by distributors in Europe and Malaysia on Wednesday.
The highly awaited political action drama has hit a roadblock due to ongoing delays in securing certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). With no official CBFC approval yet, the makers approached the Madras High Court, which has reserved its order on the matter — further delaying the process.
Overseas distributors took to social media platform X to announce that the film’s initial release would be postponed to a later date. They urged fans to remain patient and said they were awaiting further updates from the production team on a new release date.
KVN Productions, the film’s producer, also shared a statement expressing regret over the postponement and promising to announce a revised release date “at the earliest,” while thanking fans for their support.
Jana Nayagan — touted as Vijay’s final film before his full-time entry into politics — features an ensemble cast and was expected to be one of the biggest Tamil releases of the season.
