With the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approaching, DMDK Party General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth urged patience and strategic thinking on the political front, saying that there is still ample time before the polls and anything can change at any moment.
Speaking to reporters at Chennai Airport, Premalatha responded to questions about constituency announcements and candidate lists circulating in political circles. She clarified that although many parties have already declared their seats and hopefuls, the election schedule has not yet been officially announced and is expected to be declared only after February 28.
Describing her party, DMDK, as like a “child” for whom she feels responsibility and care, Premalatha said she is committed to making decisions that are in the best interest of the people of Tamil Nadu.
She added that her party aims to form a transparent and publicly respected alliance and assured that there are no secrets or hidden deals in the process.
Premalatha also emphasised that coalition options are still open—whether with AIADMK, DMK, or any other party—and final decisions have not been taken yet. She highlighted that alliances can be formed with various parties if they serve the welfare of the people and yield positive outcomes for Tamil Nadu.
“We will take time to think clearly and decide what is best for the people. After the election, a government will come into power, and we want that government to be a good one in 2026,” she stressed, reaffirming her party’s focus on broad consensus and electoral strategy ahead of the polls.
