āThere was no space for Hindi in the past, nor is there now or ever,ā he said, reiterating the Stateās long-standing position against what it views as linguistic imposition. Assuring that the era of loss of lives over language struggles was over, the Chief Minister said the Tamil sentiment would never fade and called upon people to continue opposing any attempt to impose Hindi.
Pointing out that Tamil Nadu was the only State in the country that had loved its language enough to give up lives for it, Stalin recalled how the State had repeatedly united across generations to resist Hindi imposition. He said Tamil Nadu had opposed such attempts with full vigour on every occasion and had consistently safeguarded the rights and identity of all language families in the Indian subcontinent.
