Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday announced a series of initiatives to honour the legacy of 19th‑century saint‑poet Ramalinga Adigal, popularly known as Vallalar. As part of the plan, the Tiruvottiyur High Road will be renamed Vallalar High Road, responding to long‑standing demands from his followers. Stalin said Vallalar’s teachings of compassion and social equality will be promoted across the state under the Dravidian Model of governance, and that the saint’s birth anniversary will be observed as ‘Thaniperum Karunai Day’. He also announced that the house where Vallalar lived in Maruthur will be renovated and preserved.
To take Vallalar’s message to an international audience, the Chief Minister said an International Vallalar Conference will be held on February 15 in Chennai, bringing together devotees and scholars to celebrate his ideals.
