Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay has strongly condemned a violent attack on his partyâs volunteers and officials in the Parimunai area of Chennai, calling the incident an assault on democratic principles and unacceptable political intimidation.
According to Vijayâs statement shared on his social media (X) platform, more than 100 rowdy elements allegedly linked to the ruling party targeted TVK workers who were conducting a routine public survey and outreach activity.
The attack resulted in injuries to several party volunteers, including two administrators â one of whom is a four-month-pregnant woman â who had to be rushed to the emergency ward for intensive care. In addition, four others are receiving medical treatment for their injuries, Vijay said.
Vijay condemned the assault as an act of âlawless violenceâ and accused political rivals of being unable to tolerate the growing influence of his party among the people. He described the attack as an attempt to intimidate political workers and silence democratic engagement.
âIt is an attack on the voice of democracy,â Vijay said, suggesting that the violence reflects fears of his partyâs rising popularity. He also warned that the people of Tamil Nadu will teach those responsible a strong lesson in the upcoming state assembly elections.
