The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday strongly criticised the alliance between the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), stating that late actor-politician Vijayakanth’s “soul will not forgive” the decision.
In a sharp reaction, the BJP said Vijayakanth, fondly known as “Captain,” had consistently opposed the DMK during his political career and had worked to build the DMDK as an alternative force in Tamil Nadu politics.
The party alleged that aligning with the DMK goes against the principles and political stand upheld by Vijayakanth.
The BJP further claimed that the DMK had politically targeted and sidelined Vijayakanth in the past, and therefore the current alliance contradicts the legacy he left behind.
The party described the development as disappointing to DMDK cadres and supporters who believed in Captain’s independent political vision.
The criticism comes after the DMDK officially joined the DMK-led alliance ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, a move that has significantly altered the state’s political equations.
The alliance has triggered strong reactions from opposition parties, with the BJP positioning itself firmly against the new partnership.
