The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has constituted a high-level committee to hold seat-sharing discussions with its alliance partners, signalling the formal start of preparations for the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu.In a statement issued on Saturday, party general secretary Duraimurugan announced that the committee would be headed by DMK treasurer T. R. Baalu. The move comes a day before the first round of negotiations is set to begin.
The panel comprises senior party leaders, including deputy general secretaries K. N. Nehru, Tiruchi Siva and A. Raja. Party organising secretary R. S. Bharathi, along with Ministers E. V. Velu and M. R. K. Panneerselvam, are also part of the committee.
The first round of seat-sharing talks is scheduled to commence on Sunday. According to party sources, official invitations will be extended to all alliance partners on behalf of the newly formed committee.
The formation of the committee underscores the DMK leadership’s intent to streamline negotiations and ensure coordination within the alliance as it gears up for the electoral battle. Political observers view the early initiation of talks as a strategic move aimed at consolidating the ruling party’s position and reinforcing unity among its partners.
