Sivaganga, Mar 9:  The Tamil Nadu government has transferred the investigation into the death of undertrial prisoner Akash in Sivaganga district to the Crime Branch–Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID).
Akash, who had been arrested in connection with an attempted murder case in Manamadurai, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Reports said he died due to breathing complications.
His family members have alleged that Akash died due to police assault during custody and have refused to accept his body, staging protests and demanding justice.
Following allegations of custodial death and criticism from opposition parties, the state Director General of Police ordered that the case be transferred to the CB-CID for a detailed investigation.
The incident has sparked widespread debate and political reactions in Tamil Nadu, with demands for a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding Akash’s death.
