The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has awarded a ₹113.80 crore contract for the construction of flyovers at Perungudi and SRP Tools junctions to ease traffic congestion on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).
The project covers the design and construction of flyovers, along with service roads, drainage systems, and electrical works. Construction is expected to be completed within 18 months from the start date.
The Perungudi flyover will feature a dedicated ramp from MGR Main Road, allowing vehicles to turn right towards Sholinganallur without disruption. At the SRP Tools junction, the flyover will enable smooth movement from OMR towards the Velachery–Taramani Link Road.
Once completed, the flyovers are expected to significantly reduce congestion at two of the busiest intersections on OMR and improve connectivity between Velachery, Taramani, and Perungudi, key hubs of Chennai’s IT corridor.
