Tamilnadu Home Secretary Dheeraj Kumar has said that claims about rising crime in Tamil Nadu are completely incorrect and not supported by official data.
Addressing reporters in Chennai, the Home Secretary said statistics over the past five years clearly show that serious crimes in the state have actually declined.
He explained that murders registered in the state have reduced from 1,597 cases in 2021 to 1,461 cases in 2025, indicating a gradual fall in serious offences.
Kumar also said that more people are now coming forward to file complaints because of increased trust in the administration and the police, which may create the perception that crimes are rising.
He added that the government follows a strict and transparent approach in cases involving custodial deaths or allegations against police personnel, ensuring proper investigation and action against those responsible.
The Home Secretary further said the briefing was held to clarify misinformation about the law-and-order situation in the state.
