The Union Government has asserted that punishment in the sensational Sathankulam Custodial Deaths Case must be awarded “without discrimination,” reinforcing the principle that justice should remain impartial and uniform.
The submission was made during the sentencing phase of the case, which pertains to the custodial deaths of a father-son duo in 2020 that had sparked widespread outrage across the country. The case, investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation, led to the conviction of multiple police personnel after a prolonged trial.
According to reports, the Centre emphasized that the rule of law mandates equal treatment for all, irrespective of the status of the accused.
