Madurai, Apr 4
Actor-director Sundar C formally entered the electoral arena by filing his nomination for the Madurai Central seat in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, marking a significant transition from cinema to active politics.
Sundar C is contesting as a candidate of the Puthiya Needhi Katchi, which is part of the National Democratic Alliance led by the AIADMK. As per alliance arrangements, the Madurai Central constituency has been allotted to his party, and he is contesting under the AIADMKās āTwo Leavesā symbol.
The nomination filing assumes importance as it sets the stage for a high-profile contest in Madurai Central, where Sundar C is expected to take on incumbent minister P. T. R. Palanivel Thiagarajan of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. The constituency, considered a key political battleground, has traditionally witnessed intense contests and remains a stronghold of the DMK.

He also underlined that his entry into politics is driven by a desire to serve the people, despite acknowledging the competitive nature of the constituency.
