Chennai, Apr 7:
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K Selvaperunthagai has demanded that AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami publicly apologise for his alleged role in handling the Sathankulam custodial deaths case.
Reacting to the recent verdict in the sensational Sathankulam custodial deaths, Selvaperunthagai said justice has finally been delivered, with the court awarding severe punishment to the accused police personnel.
He alleged that during his tenure as Chief Minister, Palaniswami attempted to “cover up” the brutal killings of father and son, Jayaraj and Bennix, by claiming they died due to natural causes like breathlessness and cardiac arrest.
Calling the incident “inhuman and shocking,” he criticised the then AIADMK government for allegedly trying to shield those responsible. He further said such actions undermined justice and public trust in the system.
Selvaperunthagai asserted that Palaniswami must seek an unconditional public apology from the people of Tamil Nadu for his alleged role. He warned that if no apology is offered, the people would deliver their verdict in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The remarks have added fresh political heat, with the Sathankulam case once again emerging as a major talking point in Tamil Nadu’s election campaign.
