Chennai, Apr 9:
In a sudden development, actor-politician Vijay has cancelled his scheduled election campaign in Cuddalore, dealing a setback to the outreach plans of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
The campaign, which was planned for April 9 across multiple locations in Cuddalore district including Manjakuppam, Vadalur, Sethiyathope and Tittakudi, has now been postponed.
According to party sources, the decision was taken in view of the Puducherry Assembly polling scheduled on the same day. Authorities reportedly denied permission for Vijay’s travel through the region due to election-related restrictions, leading to the cancellation of the programme.
TVK functionaries said fresh permission has been sought to hold the campaign on April 11.
The cancellation comes amid a series of disruptions to Vijay’s campaign schedule in recent days, raising concerns within the party over time constraints as the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach.
With just days left for polling, party cadres had been expecting an aggressive statewide campaign by Vijay across all 234 constituencies.
However, repeated postponements and cancellations have triggered unease among functionaries about the party’s ability to maintain momentum in its debut electoral battle.
