Chennai, May 29:
Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the TVK-led Tamil Nadu government following reports of a horrific sexual assault on a minor boy, raising serious concerns over law and order in the State.
Targeting Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, the Leader of Opposition questioned the safety of children under the present administration. He alleged that the rising number of such crimes has created a climate of fear among the public, particularly affecting vulnerable sections.
Directly addressing the Chief Minister, Palaniswami said, “Sir, the very children on whose behalf you gathered votes are now standing unprotected under your rule. What answer will you give for all this?” He accused the government of failing in its fundamental duty to ensure safety and security.
The former Chief Minister also dismissed the State government’s recent law and order review initiatives as mere public relations exercises. Referring to a video released by the government, he said doubts were growing over whether such meetings were meaningful or merely ceremonial. He further remarked that the alleged involvement of a police officer in the crime raises disturbing questions, adding, “Doesn’t the cruelty of a wolf grazing right in the fold torment your conscience?”
