Sriperumbudur, June 1:
A sudden fire broke out at an industrial waste storage area of Hyundai Mobis in Sriperumbudur on Sunday (May 31, 2026), triggering panic among motorists along the busy Chennai-Bengaluru Highway as thick black smoke billowed into the sky.

The Hyundai Mobis facility, known for producing automotive components such as airbag mechanisms and audio systems, reported the fire starting in its waste storage section before rapidly spreading.
Fueled by strong winds, the flames quickly engulfed parts of the factory, sending towering plumes of smoke visible from a considerable distance. Company officials promptly alerted authorities and evacuated all workers from the premises, ensuring no casualties were reported.
Fire tenders and rescue teams from Sriperumbudur and Oragadam fire stations rushed to the spot and battled the blaze for over four hours before bringing it under control. Officials confirmed that at least two units within the factory were completely destroyed in the incident.
