Chennai, June 2:

Southern Railway has secured third position among all Zonal Railways in the national-level Swachhata Pakhwada Awards 2025 for its cleanliness and sanitation initiatives.

The campaign, held from October 1 to 15, 2025, covered 439 stations and multiple railway establishments across six divisions. Around 35,000 participants took the Swachhata pledge, while over 11,000 personnel engaged in cleaning drives.

Key achievements included cleaning 544 km of tracks, desilting 43 km of drains, processing 268 tonnes of solid waste, and planting over 10,000 saplings. The initiative also saw disposal of plastic waste and scrap materials on a large scale.

Southern Railway said the campaign reflects its commitment to hygiene, sustainability, and improved passenger experience across its network.
