Paraguay pulled off a stunning upset at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, defeating Germany in a tense penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time.
Julio Enciso gave Paraguay an early lead, while Germany fought back through Kai Havertz to level the score. Despite dominating possession, Germany failed to break down Paraguayâs disciplined defence.
The match was decided on penalties, where Paraguay held their nerve to win 4-3, handing Germany their first-ever World Cup shootout defeat.
