Chennai, July 2:
Banks across India will remain closed for a total of 12 days in July 2026 due to a mix of weekly holidays, national observances, and state-specific festivals. Customers are advised to plan their banking activities in advance to avoid inconvenience, especially for services that require visiting a branch.
The holiday schedule includes all Sundays, along with the second and fourth Saturdays, which are standard non-working days for banks nationwide. In addition to these, several regional festivals will result in closures in specific states. For instance, banks in some states will remain closed on July 6 for Muharram (Ashura), while festivals such as Beh Dinkhlam in Meghalaya, Rath Yatra in Odisha and Manipur, U Tirot Sing Day in Meghalaya, and Kharchi Puja in Tripura will lead to localised closures on different dates.
According to the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar, these holidays are not uniformly observed across the country. While some dates apply to all states, others are limited to particular regions based on local customs and celebrations. Therefore, customers should check the holiday list applicable to their state before planning a visit to a bank branch.
Even during these holidays, digital banking services will continue to function without interruption. Customers can access internet banking, mobile banking, UPI, and ATM services round the clock for fund transfers, bill payments, and other essential transactions. However, services that require physical presence at a branch—such as cheque clearance, demand draft issuance, cash deposits or withdrawals at counters, loan processing, and passbook updates—will not be available.
To avoid last-minute delays, customers are encouraged to complete important banking tasks ahead of time and make full use of digital platforms. With proper planning, banking needs can be managed smoothly despite the holiday schedule in July 2026.
