Chennai, July 6:

In a major development in the alleged bribery and political conspiracy case involving a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam MLA, the Chennai City Police have arrested one more person, taking the total number of the arrested individuals to nine.

The latest arrest is Krishna, the car driver of Tirunavukkarasu, who is associated with the IBTS election strategy organisation. Police officials from Triplicane carried out the arrest, stating that he allegedly assisted in moving key documents and handling financial transactions linked to the case.

According to the complaint, Tirunavukkarasu had approached N. Ilaiyaraja, offering ₹35 crore to influence his vote during a proposed no-confidence motion against the Assembly Speaker. When the MLA refused, he reportedly received death threats targeting him and his family.

Earlier, police had arrested the prime accused Tirunavukkarasu along with two others on July 1. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of five more individuals connected to the alleged conspiracy. With Krishna’s arrest, the case has intensified, and authorities are continuing their probe to uncover further links, including the source of seized funds and other individuals involved in the plot.
