Chennai, July 6:
Tamil Nadu Minister Nirmal Kumar has indicated that the announcement for local body elections in the state could be made at any time, urging party workers to stay prepared.
Speaking at a welfare distribution event held in Veerapandi near Theni to mark the birthday of Chief Minister Vijay, the minister said the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government has already begun taking steps to strengthen the state’s financial position within just two months of coming to power.
He highlighted efforts to eliminate corruption in government offices and claimed that the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime had failed to engage directly with the public, which led to its electoral defeat. He also asserted that the current leadership would continue to govern the state for decades.
On governance, the minister stated that action is being taken against illegal quarrying activities in Theni district and warned of strict measures against those involved in mineral exploitation. He further noted that the government has initiated steps to fill thousands of vacant public sector jobs within a short span.
Emphasising inclusive development, Nirmal Kumar said welfare schemes would be implemented across all constituencies without political bias. With local body elections expected soon, he called on party members to work actively to secure a decisive victory.
