Glasgow, July 28:

India’s medal count rose to 10 at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after a productive Day 5 in Glasgow, with athletes delivering standout performances across disciplines.

Sarvesh Kushare scripted history by winning India’s first-ever silver in men’s high jump, clearing 2.25m, while Sharmila Dhankar clinched a landmark gold in para athletics, ending a 20-year wait for a medal in the category. Shilpa Shyla added to the celebrations with a bronze, upgraded after a successful protest.

Weightlifting continued to drive India’s medal surge, with Valluri Ajaya Babu and Gyaneshwari Yadav securing silver medals, and Bindyarani Devi taking bronze. The sport has now contributed six medals to India’s tally.

In boxing, Sachin Siwach, Ankush and Sakshi Chaudhary advanced to the quarterfinals, keeping medal hopes alive. Athletics saw mixed results, with M Sreeshankar qualifying for the long jump final, while Tejas Shirse made history by reaching the 110m hurdles final before finishing eighth due to injury.

India’s swimmers had a tough outing, with Sajan Prakash and Aryan Nehra finishing eighth in their respective finals.

With six medals added on Day 5, India continues its strong run at the Games, with several athletes still in contention for podium finishes in the coming days.
