Chennai, Aug 12:
The Tamil Nadu Health Department has issued an advisory to the public as cases of fever are increasing across the State amid the monsoon season.
People experiencing persistent fever, sudden high fever, severe muscle pain, headache, pain behind the eyes, joint pain, abdominal pain, red eyes, skin rashes, back pain, fatigue or loss of appetite have been advised to immediately consult a doctor and undergo medical examination instead of self-medicating.
The Health Department has directed officials to establish dedicated fever wards in government hospitals across Tamil Nadu in view of the seasonal increase in infections.
Doctors have also been instructed to conduct appropriate tests based on symptoms and classify patients according to the severity of their fever before deciding on treatment.
Health officials have warned that leptospirosis, dengue, chikungunya and typhoid are among the illnesses that can increase during the rainy season. The public has been urged to keep homes and surrounding areas clean and hygienic.
District medical officers have also been directed to coordinate with corporations, municipalities and panchayats to intensify preventive measures and control the spread of seasonal diseases.
