Los Angeles, Aug 25:
At least six people were injured and around 42,000 people were ordered to evacuate as a fast-growing wildfire spread towards Reno in northwestern Nevada near the California border.
The Hawk Fire, which began on Saturday, had spread across more than 13,000 acres, or about 53 sq km, and remained completely uncontained, fire officials said.
The injured included three civilians and three first responders, while another 45,000 people were placed under evacuation warnings. Several structures were destroyed and about 10,000 customers in Washoe County were left without power.
Officials reported extreme fire behaviour, with strong winds driving the blaze rapidly through dry vegetation. Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency for Washoe County and urged residents to follow evacuation instructions as authorities deployed additional resources to battle the fire.
