Chennai, Aug. 27:
The State transport authorities will operate more than 4,000 special buses across Tamil Nadu to meet the anticipated weekend travel rush, with additional services planned from Chennai and other major cities to key destinations across the State.
The special services will supplement regular bus operations and are aimed at preventing overcrowding and easing congestion at major bus terminals.
From the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus at Kilambakkam, special buses will be operated to destinations including Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchy, Kumbakonam and Madurai, among other major towns.
Additional buses are also expected to be operated from other transport hubs to meet the increased demand from people travelling to their hometowns and those returning to Chennai after the weekend.
Transport authorities have advised passengers to make advance reservations wherever possible to avoid last-minute congestion. Officials will monitor passenger movement and deploy additional buses depending on demand.
Special arrangements are also expected at major bus termini, including Kilambakkam and Koyambedu, to regulate passenger movement and prevent long waiting periods.
The large-scale operation reflects the growing demand for inter-district travel during weekends, particularly from Chennai, where thousands of residents travel regularly to southern and delta districts.
Officials said the additional services would be operated alongside the regular schedule and that passenger demand would be continuously monitored throughout the weekend.
